One of Barry's three beaches, this is the one most often sailed and can produce some perfect bump and jump windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions in S-SW winds. The beach itself is is small and pebbly and quite steep at high tide. As the tide drops a small shingle and sand beach is revealed and the shorebreak is much reduced. Parking is available next to the beach. Toilets, showers, cafes and a pub can also be found near the beach and accomodation is found in Barry.
To find it take Junction 33 from the M4 and follow signs to Barry. Cold Knap is signposted from Barry.
The steep pebbly beach results in quite a shorbreak developing on high tides and it is therefore not recommended for beginners. Cold Knap is one of the better windsurfing locations in the area for intermediate to advanced windsurfers. As with most beaches in this area, the large tidal ranges can produce strong currents at certain states of the tide.

most kiters have give up at the knap as getting dragged up the pebbles is
hard on the face , theres not really enough sand .
also car parking is free and had been for last 2yrs , the hut that the
attendant used to hide in blew away on a really good day last yr.
